I finally got to attend my first anime convention, Youmacon 2013! ^_^ Once I was aware I would definitely be able to attend as a contributing member of back in March, I knew I wanted to do a cosplay for this convention. The question was, what?

I had never been to a convention like this and certainly never had done cosplay before. Still, it didn't take too long to come to a decision: it would have to be a favorite anime outfit and it would have to be something absolutely ridiculous.

Thus, I went with my absolute favorite outfit from all the anime and manga that I've seen over the years: the outfit worn by the title character from the Japanese season one intro of Card Captor Sakura.

Much to my delight, my sister-in-law, Marya, was actually very interested in making this costume for me over the course of several months! ^_^ Just about everything you see here was handmade. The only exceptions are the shoes, stockings, pettipants [Had to wear something underneath this dress ^_^;] and the petticoats. If you ask me, she did a wonderful job on this outfit.

One interesting feature is a small plushie of Kero. Since I am a Type I diabetic, I have to carry around a kit with various medical supplies over my shoulder. Therefore, why not have Kero chilling out on my shoulder on the strap of my medical supply kit?

What amazes me is just how well-received my costume was! I must have been stopped at least 45 times by people asking for my photo. The photo ops I remember best are:
1. Me with Ken Pontac, lead writer of Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World [Meeting him was awesome! ^_^ He had a really good pirate costume, as well. :Nod: ] scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto…

3. A maintenance worker who had stepped onto the monorail [AKA: the People Mover] to reset a tripped circuit breaker
4. Me with a very elaborate Princess Peach cosplayer
5. Me with , who was wearing a wonderful cosplay of Princess Elise from Sonic 2006 scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto…

The other photo op I remember was a young woman who tried to take my picture from outside the monorail just before the doors to the monorail closed and the train moved on. ^_^;

Another person walked up to me saying something along the lines of: It's people like you who make conventions so much fun to go to. Thank you!

The 3 and a half days at Youmacon were a blast! Hope I get to return in a year or two at the very least.

One last note: I saw at least 3 other people cosplaying as Card Captor Sakura at Youmacon 2013. Quite nice to see one of my favorite animes is still remembered.
